Adventure, you say?

I had an amazing adventure yesterday!

Early in the morning, my friends Jodi and Theresa met at my house and we jumped in the car to drive to the Coast. We had loose plans to poke around Astoria and then have a picnic on the beach nearby but nothing set in stone. By the time we arrived in Astoria the foggy weather had cleared to bright sunshine and we hardly needed jackets!

First stop, the Goonies house! I'd never been and it was quite a treat for this relatively new Oregonian. The owners were apparently used to people trekking up their drive and had a welcome sign out.

After grabbing some coffee we walked along the piers in Astoria for a while, then headed out to Ft. Steven's to have lunch on the beach. It was a bit chillier on the water but still very pleasant. We stayed for a couple hours, picking up seashells, taking photographs and laughing at the people driving on the beach, trying to find a way back to the road.

Later we thought maybe we'd head out to Ecola State Park and do some hiking. On the way out though, we passed by a sign for a historical military site and decided to have a look. After climbing some stairs we discovered an abandoned bunker complete with moss-covered, dark and spooky hallways and strange rusted pieces. WHAT FUN!!!! We immediately regressed to the age of 12. With cameras. (You've been warned!)

After we had our fill and once again headed out of the park, we took a wrong turn and ended up at another entrance - looked like for a museum. Guarding the gate was an elk having a leisurely snack. We decide to stop at the museum for a bathroom break - rounded a corner and HOLY SMOKES! More abandoned bunkers!

I love old buildings...
